What Is Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a very light, rhythmic massage that encourages the natural movement of lymph—helping de-puff tissues, ease swelling, and support your body’s cleanup and recovery processes. By guiding fluid toward key lymph nodes, MLD helps your system clear cellular waste and excess fluid from tender or inflamed areas. It’s gentle, calming, and customized to your comfort.

What Is the Lymphatic System?

Who Should Not Receive MLD?

Absolute contraindications (skip MLD and contact your clinician):

• Acute infection or fever

• Active blood clots, hemorrhage, or serious circulatory issues (e.g., phlebitis, venous obstruction)

• Uncontrolled cardiac arrhythmia

• Uncontrolled hyperthyroidism

• Uncontrolled epilepsy

Relative contraindications (need provider clearance or modifications):

• Significant edema of unknown cause

• Acute asthma flare

• Fresh burns, scars, bruises, eczema flare

• Recent abdominal surgery or active abdominal concerns

• Menstruation (for abdominal work)

• Cysts, pregnancy, or active cancer/in treatment
